    • Cockburn Career Fire and Rescue Service firefighters move into their new state-of-the-art home
    • Future-proofed station designed to meet the needs of the growing Cockburn and southern suburbs community

The State's newest career fire station is officially operational in Perth's southern suburbs.

Emergency Services Minister Reece Whitby joined Cockburn Career Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) firefighters at their state-of-the-art station on North Lake Road in Cockburn today.

Mr Whitby toured the new Cockburn Fire Station with firefighters who were heavily involved in the design of the facility.

The modern, purpose-built station was planned to cater for increases in both personnel and appliances in the future.

It features three vehicle bays, an indoor-outdoor gym, training area and a post-incident wash-down area.

Funded by the Emergency Services Levy, the centrally located station has easy access to major arterial roads including North Lake Road and Kwinana Freeway, resulting in faster response times to communities in the expanding Cockburn area.

The firefighting crews had been based at the Cockburn Volunteer Emergency Services Complex while the new facility was constructed.

Comments attributed to Emergency Services Minister Reece Whitby:

"After a year of construction, firefighters at Cockburn Career Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) have a home to call their own.

"Over the past 12 months, Cockburn CFRS attended more than 640 incidents including 61 structure fires, 97 bushfires and 106 road crashes.

"This $11 million investment from the Emergency Services Levy to build a state-of-the-art fire station demonstrates the State Government's commitment to supporting Perth's southern suburbs."

Comments attributed to Cockburn MLA David Scaife:

"Cockburn Fire Station has been built to the highest standard to ensure it will meet the current and future needs of firefighters, the Cockburn community and its changing urban landscape.

"Cockburn Career Fire and Rescue Service firefighters had significant input into the design of the facility, and it is terrific to see them in their new home and serving our community."
