    • Event draws competitors from across the country into Perth

Entries open today for the Australian Masters Games, which is being held in Perth this October.

Supported by the State Government, through Tourism WA and VenuesWest, it is the first time Western Australia has hosted the premier sporting event since 1993.

The Australian Masters Games, for people aged over 30, features around 50 sports including: athletics, cricket, basketball, netball, figure skating and wrestling.

While sport is the main attraction, the event is also known for its social activities, with a program of entertainment throughout the week to give competitors and guests a taste of Perth and the surrounding regions.

More than 8,000 competitors and supporters are expected to take part in the Australian Masters Games, which will be held in Perth from October 9 to October 16, 2021, in line with advice of the WA Chief Health Officer. To enter, visit https://australianmastersgames.com

Comments attributed to Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:

"Attracting large sporting events, like the Australian Masters Games, is an important part of the McGowan Government's tourism strategy.

"The Masters Games will attract competitors from right across WA and give them a chance to rediscover our city."

Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:

"Age is the only criteria for the Australian Masters Games - it's all about getting active, reconnecting with friends and creating new relationships.

"With so many different sporting and social events offered throughout the week, the games provide many opportunities for participants to build connections to their community, which are more valuable now than ever as we continue through the COVID-19 pandemic."
