- McGowan Government ensuring kids have the greatest opportunity to participate in sport year-round by doubling KidSport vouchers
- Eligible families can apply for two $150 Kidsport vouchers this year, taking the total financial assistance available up to $300
- KidSport has helped children access club sports since 2011 with $31 million worth of vouchers going directly to WA clubs
More Western Australian families are set to take to the playing fields and courts, with the State Government doubling KidSport vouchers for 2021 to help families reconnect through sport.
Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray today announced the initiative which will see eligible families able to access two $150 KidSport vouchers to help pay club fees, easing the burden the rising costs of junior sport places on families.
The popular KidSport program aims to assist lower-income families to get their children involved in organised sport.
Since 2011 almost 215,000 vouchers equating to $31 million has gone directly to clubs throughout Western Australia.
The new additional voucher will be accessible from July 1, 2021, enabling parents and guardians to support kids to access club sport and swimming lessons all year round.
Already in the first weeks of 2021, the KidSport program has helped more than 1,600 kids to access club sport with a $150 voucher.
The initiative follows the recent addition of Swim Schools as a new club category late last year.
KidSport is run by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, with the help of 50 local governments.
Applications are open all year round. Details on how to apply can be found at http://www.dlgsc.wa.gov.au/kidsport
Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:
"I am beyond pleased that the McGowan Government is doubling KidSport support for Western Australian families as part of the State's economic recovery.
"Sport plays such a vital role in helping kids and families to connect with community and should be part of every child's life regardless of their circumstances, ability or where they come from.
"I would encourage all eligible families to make the most of the two annual KidSport vouchers in 2021 and make sure they are signed up to a summer sport to utilise the year's first voucher."
