    • Contract awarded for first of four infrastructure projects at Australian Marine Complex
    • Fast-tracked projects worth over $87 million part of WA Recovery Plan
    • The four projects will create up to 600 construction jobs

Construction work is about to begin on the first of four Australian Marine Complex (AMC) infrastructure projects which will help grow Western Australia's defence industry.

The $87.6 million projects will enable the AMC to support the larger and more complex Royal Australian Navy vessels entering service in the coming years.

The projects include a new vessel transfer path, a new shipbuilding facility, a major wharf extension and upgrade, and three road intersection upgrades.

Building and civil construction company Georgiou will deliver the first project, which is the new vessel transfer path.

The new vessel transfer path will create greater connectivity across the AMC, between the floating dock and shipbuilding and sustainment facilities, including ASC, BAE and Civmec.

Lanskey Constructions will deliver the new shipbuilding facility in the northern shipbuilding precinct, which will activate underutilised waterfront land to support commercial shipbuilding.  This will free up strategic land for sustainment activities to support the Navy.

The extension to AMC Berth 1 will create a new berth and enable the facility to accommodate all Royal Australian Navy vessels, including Anzac class frigates, Arafura class Offshore Patrol Vessels, and the future Hunter class frigates.

Comments attributed to Defence Issues Minister Paul Papalia:

"The McGowan Government's investment of $87.6 million to fast-track four infrastructure projects at the Australian Marine Complex is already starting to deliver results.

"The improvements will enhance the AMC's reputation as Australia's key defence industry hub and help secure defence contracts that will grow the WA economy.

"The projects align with the Western Australian Defence and Defence Industries Strategic Plan, which aims to double the value of the Department of Defence's annual contribution to the State from $3 to $6 billion by 2030."
