Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:

"The State Government is committed to supporting smaller sports, especially those that rely on volunteers.

"Often these sports are making a big difference in the community and can be overshadowed by the larger, better financed ones.

"A silver lining of the COVID-19 pandemic was that it gave all sports an opportunity to reset and to identify areas for improvement.

"The Sport Development Fund will provide financial assistance to smaller sports to address those areas as we move through the recovery phase, ensuring they remain sustainable into the future.

"This funding pool will help these groups build stronger, healthier, happier and safer communities - and enable State Sporting Associations to better serve grassroots clubs and participants."
