$1.7 million secured for valuable local community centres

    • Additional $1.7 million for a range of valuable community services delivered under the Community and Neighbourhood Development program
    • Funding extends community service agreements to mid-2022

The McGowan Government has secured an additional $1.7 million to enable community and neighbourhood development services to continue to deliver programs and activities to families and individuals across Western Australia.

The new funding, made available as part of this week's Mid-year Review, extends services offered through a number of community and neighbourhood centres to June 30, 2022.

The Department of Communities purchases services under the Community and Neighbourhood Development program.

The program provides opportunities for individuals and families to develop skills and knowledge, build on their strengths to help with managing their own lives, increase their self-esteem, engage in personal development and enhance their relationships.

Organisations delivering these services include neighbourhood centres and family centres that collaborate and work with a diverse range of community groups.

Anyone in the community can access the activities offered by these services, which for example include first aid courses for children, playgroups, and cooking and art classes.

This investment will give the service providers additional certainty as they make plans for the 2021-22 financial year.
