    • Small Business Matters' campaign supporting and advocating for WA sector

Western Australians are encouraged to support WA Small Business Day this Saturday, October 31, with shoppers asked to make a pledge to back local small businesses and local workers in the lead up to Christmas.

The #mysmallpledge campaign asks Western Australians to commit to shopping local to assist small businesses as they recover from the impacts of COVID-19.

WA Small Business Day is run by Small Business Matters - a movement led by volunteers and developed to advocate for and assist the sector.

The McGowan Government has made $30,000 available to promote Small Business Day around the State, which is in addition to the raft of measures provided to support small businesses as they manage the impacts of COVID-19.

Widespread support to small business and the broader economy is also being provided as part of the McGowan Government's $5.5 billion WA Recovery Plan - including billions in job-creating infrastructure programs, payroll tax relief, electricity credits, licence fees reductions and commercial tenancy relief.

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

"Small businesses and local workers have made an incredibly important contribution to WA's COVID-19 response, and this festive season provides a wonderful opportunity for Western Australians to say thank you.

"The #mysmallpledge campaign calls on everyone to think local first when shopping for Christmas this year, supporting small businesses across a whole range of industries.

"I commend Small Business Matters for driving this campaign. It is an initiative the State Government is pleased to support on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of Western Australians who own or work in our small businesses."

Comments attributed to Small Business Minister Paul Papalia:

"WA's small businesses stepped up in a remarkable way earlier this year, with so many putting their businesses on hold to help protect their fellow Western Australians.

"The sacrifices our small businesses made over this period have helped to make Western Australia's economic recovery the strongest in the country, and now the community and wider business sector is reaping the benefits of this contribution.

"I encourage all Western Australians to make a small pledge to support their local small businesses in the lead-up to Christmas and beyond."
