- $1.45 million Des Penman Memorial Reserve refurbishment officially opened today
- Improvements include the construction of four unisex change rooms and the refurbishment of the clubrooms
The $1.45 million refurbishment of change rooms at Des Penman Memorial Reserve in Nollamara has been officially opened.
The reserve, located on Lemana Road, is home to the Nollamara Cricket Club and the Nollamara Football Club.
The project included the provision of four unisex change rooms which will improve capacity for men's and women's teams to use the facility at the same time.
The upgraded facilities will also accommodate the growing use of the facility by club members, and foster participation in football and cricket by girls and women who did not have access to adequate change room facilities prior to these upgrades.
The State Government contributed $400,000 to the upgrade through its Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
Other sources of funding for the project included:
- $550,000 from the City of Stirling; and
- $500,000 from the Federal Government.
Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:
"As a Sport and Recreation Minister, there are few more rewarding experiences for me than opening a purpose built sporting facility that will benefit a local community, especially when it provides unisex change rooms that ensure all players have access to appropriate facilities.
"Having visited the clubrooms at the invitation of the club and the local member a few years ago, I am well aware of just how desperately needed these upgrades were.
"I know these new facilities will be widely used and will better serve the growing number of Nollamara cricket and footy players, whilst also cementing the venue's status as a hub for the local community."
Comments attributed to Morley MLA Amber-Jade Sanderson:
"Footy and cricket clubs are real grassroots clubs providing an important social and community hub for locals.
"I'm especially excited to see better facilities for the growing number of family football players. With these new facilities both clubs have a very bright future."
