    • State Government commits $3.2 million to build a water playground at Kununurra
    • Playground earmarked as Stage 1 of a wider upgrade of Kununurra Leisure and Aquatic Centre

The State Government has committed $3.2 million to build a water playground in Kununurra as part of the WA Recovery Plan, following sustained advocacy from the Member for Kimberley.

The playground will be located in the Kununurra Leisure and Aquatic Centre, and will be free for the entire community to use.

The project is Stage 1 of the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley's proposal to fully redevelop the centre.

The water playground will be a facility the whole family can enjoy, with a splash pad and a water spray area for toddlers.

The playground will provide both year-round fun and compelling physical benefits for local children, with the water-based facility perfect for the warm Kununurra climate.

The project is being funded as part of the State Government's WA Recovery Plan, and will stimulate the economy and provide important opportunities for local contractors during its construction.

Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:

"I am delighted the State Government is able to fund this new facility, which will form the first stage of a much-needed upgrade of this leisure centre.

"In a climate such as this, the aquatic playground will be a fantastic facility that local young people and visitors alike will be able to enjoy year-round.

"Thanks must go to Josie Farrer MLA and the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley for both their advocacy and work bringing this project to fruition - with the facility set to be a great boost to the Kununurra community.

"I'm particularly pleased the project will create local jobs and assist in the State's economic recovery as part of the WA Recovery Plan."

Comments attributed to Kimberley MLA Josie Farrer:

"This new water playground will be a lot of fun for local kids, providing a healthy opportunity to cool down and be active.

"The water playground will make Kununurra an even better for place for local families to live - and importantly, will be free for all to enjoy.

"I am pleased the State Government has funded this important project after years in the pipeline, which I know will be well used by both the local community and families visiting Kununurra."
