- New facility will include indoor pools, change rooms, sports courts and community facilities, a gymnasium and other community spaces
- Project will fill the need for a multipurpose leisure facility in rapidly growing Ellenbrook
- State Government contributed $7 million towards the facility with additional funding provided by the Commonwealth Government and City of Swan
The turning of the first sod of soil today will mark the beginning of construction of the new multimillion dollar Ellenbrook Indoor Leisure Centre.
The new facility will integrate sport, aquatic, wellbeing, health and community components within the one complex, and will cater to local residents of all ages and level of ability.
The provision of the multipurpose leisure facility will give Ellenbrook residents, who currently travel 30 minutes to a Midland recreation facility, the opportunity to participate in sport and recreation locally.
Ellenbrook is one of the fastest growth suburbs in the nation, with its population forecasted to reach more than 70,000 residents by 2036. The new facility will be well utilised by this rapidly growing number of residents, with over half a million people expected to visit the facility per year once construction is completed.
The centre will be co-located with the Ellenbrook District Open Space, which previously received a $4.547 million State Government funding contribution, creating a vibrant sporting precinct and complementing the existing infrastructure within the Ellenbrook Sports Hub.
