    • McGowan Government ensuring protection and safety of children comes first

The McGowan Government is boosting funding to an important program which protects and supports child abuse victims and their families.

Police Minister Michelle Roberts today confirmed funding of $395,607 to Parkerville Children and Youth Care.

The organisation provides comprehensive support services to victims of child abuse and their families, along with important advocacy, research and prevention programs.

The funding will be used to deliver a Protective Behaviours Education Program to be run out of the Stan and Jean Perron Child Advocacy Centre in Midland.

The initiative is a living skills program which provides children and young people with a range of skills aimed at helping them to identify difficult emotions and experiences, and empowering them with strategies to respond appropriately and effectively to preserve their physical and emotional wellbeing.

Last financial year, Parkerville Children and Youth Care provided services to more than 10,000 children, young people and their families across a range of programs.

Comments attributed to Police Minister Michelle Roberts:

"Child sexual abuse is one of the most depraved crimes imaginable and has a profound impact on children and their families.

"Our Child Abuse Squad detectives have worked very closely with the amazing staff at Parkerville Children and Youth Care for many years now.

"They perform challenging work, dealing with these highly traumatised and vulnerable children.

"This funding will ensure young Western Australian victims of child abuse are better supported and will improve long-term outcomes for those children, young people and families."
