    • Community consultation on Ocean Reef Marina continues with new Construction Working Group
    • Group includes representatives of local organisations, community groups and residents
    • Construction at the long-awaited marina is set to begin this year

A Construction Working Group has been established to provide direct community input during the early works and breakwater construction phases of the Ocean Reef Marina.

Through an expression of interest process, 23 people have been selected to form the group, comprised of 18 local organisation and community group members and five local residents.

The group will provide an important conduit between the community, DevelopmentWA and the project contractor during the construction phase.

The group's members represent a wide array of community organisations such as schools, environmental groups, police, government agencies and sporting clubs.

Building on significant consultation by the City of Joondalup over many years, community engagement by DevelopmentWA has played a key role over the past three years in guiding the design of the new marina.

DevelopmentWA and the City of Joondalup have worked extensively to connect with community members through a variety of forums, resident surveys, online information sessions, community planning workshops, and open days at the site of the future marina.

In addition, the community will have the opportunity to attend another open day on Sunday, August 16 from 10am to 4pm to learn more about the latest developments for the project.

The McGowan Government has committed $120 million in funding for the marina over the life of the project, beginning with a $35 million allocation during the next four years. It is also expected to generate more than $500 million in private sector investment.

The State Government's development corporation, DevelopmentWA, will construct the marina. The City of Joondalup is a project partner.

It will become a hub for commercial, recreational and residential activity on the coast, with capacity for up to 550 boat pens, 200 boat stackers and a diverse mix of around 1,000 new homes.

Approximately 12,000sqm of retail and commercial space, integrated with more than five hectares of community spaces, will cater for a range of new and expanded businesses such as cafés and restaurants.

The Ocean Reef Marina concept plan has the highest level of environment approvals and includes strategies to help ensure long-term protection of the environment, including the purchase of approximately 26 hectares of Bush Forever 'offset' land and approximately five hectares of onsite bushland rehabilitation.
