    • $52.6 million towards construction of a new Fremantle Police Station
    • $37.7 million upgrade program for metropolitan regional and remote police stations
    • $4.2 million for new Water Police Wharf and Jetty
    • $2 million for Police radio network

The McGowan Government is spending $96.5 million as part of the WA Recovery Plan to upgrade and refurbish police stations across the state as part of its commitment to deliver better police services for the community of Western Australia.

The major capital works package includes $52.6 million for the construction of a purpose built, modern police station in Fremantle.

The state of the art facility is planned to be built at the former Stan Reilly Reserve site on South Terrace near the corner of Parry Street.

$23.5 million will be spent on refurbishments and upgrades at 15 police stations across regional and metropolitan WA.

$14.2 million in improvements will be carried out at five multifunctional police stations in remote regional WA.

$4.2 million has been set aside to construct a new wharf and jetty for the Fremantle Headquarters of the Water Police.

The police maintenance and refurbishment works is expected to get underway within weeks and will create an immediate boost to workers such as electricians, painters, plumbers, builders and carpenters.

$2 million is also being spent upgrading the remaining WA Police Force analogue radio network in the Kimberley.

The major capital works program follows the McGowan Government's strong investment in policing, with the new Capel Police Station nearing completion and the $85.8 million Armadale Courthouse and Police Complex due for completion next year.

Comments attributed to Police Minister Michelle Roberts:

"These projects will provide better and more effective facilities for our police.

"They will support local jobs for local people, delivering social and economic outcomes in the suburbs and throughout regional Western Australia as we recovery from COVID-19.

"Some of this work is urgently overdue because of a decade of neglect by the Barnett-Harvey Government.

"I'm particularly pleased we've been able to secure money on budget to build a state of the art complex for our police officers in Fremantle.

"Our police have been doing a magnificent job, especially during the COVID lockdown and we are doing our bit to ensure they have the facilities and equipment they need to do their job."
