    • New master-planned development will address lack of housing diversity and affordability in south-eastern metropolitan corridor
    • Mahala development to include mix of social housing, affordable shared equity and full market sales

Buyers keen to take advantage of the McGowan Government's Building Bonus grant now have the opportunity to purchase a lot in one of Western Australia's newest land developments.

Nestled among parks and bush in Forrestdale, Mahala will deliver a diverse, connected and inclusive community that reflects the natural surroundings of the area and creates a strong sense of place.

The Department of Communities is collaborating with LWP Group to deliver a vibrant, master-planned and affordable housing development 23km south-east of Perth's CBD.

Mahala will include a mix of social housing, affordable shared equity and full market sales opportunities for people across all stages of life and on varying incomes.

Mahala Stage One, which opened to the public at the weekend, (Saturday July 25) comprises 55 residential lots and is the first of four stages totalling 178 lots.  Prices for the initial release are expected to range between $155,000 and $321,000.

Communities has retained 10 lots in Stage One - six for social housing and four for affordable housing.

Comments attributed to Housing Minister Peter Tinley:

"The Department and LWP have a strong history of creating award-winning master-planned communities which includes Australia's most awarded new town - Ellenbrook.

"The 38-hectare Mahala development was created to address the lack of housing diversity and affordability in the south-eastern metropolitan corridor.

"Once complete, Mahala will yield about 554 lots which will provide an ongoing supply of affordable housing opportunities in the southern metropolitan area, as well as employment and education opportunities, well connected transport options and a host of amenities.

"I look forward to watching Mahala grow into a diverse community where people choose to live, work and play."
