    • Volunteer groups who previously held $1,000 fuel card no longer need to reapply for new card this year
    • DFES to contact groups who have not previously applied for the card
    • Part of nearly $6 million State Government initiative supported by Royalties for Regions

Emergency service volunteer brigades, groups and units will no longer need to reapply for the $1,000 emergency services fuel card under a new, simplified allocation system.

The fuel card, a gift from the State Government to recognise the contribution of volunteers, will be automatically reissued next month to those that previously held one.

Those who did not hold a card last year will be contacted by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services over the coming weeks to apply.

More than 840 volunteer firefighting, State Emergency Service, Marine Rescue and St John Ambulance brigades, groups and units will receive the $1,000 fuel card, which is supported by Royalties for Regions.

Now in its sixth year, the Emergency Services Volunteer Fuel Card Scheme provides some assistance for volunteer travel and transport expenses.

Comments attributed to Emergency Services Minister Francis Logan:

"The Volunteer Fuel Card Scheme initiative is a symbol of thanks for emergency services volunteers to recognise their great contributions to protecting their communities.

"Volunteers often tell me they do not serve their community for monetary rewards, so the card is not intended to cover all costs, but rather to provide some assistance where possible.

"I am glad that the Department of Fire and Emergency Services has also helped volunteers out by putting in place this new system of automatically reissuing cards to those that previously held them."
