    • Construction of new $18.8 million residential aged and palliative care facility to commence next month, with tender awarded to Mid-West-based Crothers Construction Pty Ltd
    • 38-bed facility set to meet the longstanding and rising demand for aged care services close to home
    • Up to 150 local jobs to be created during construction
    • New facility expected to achieve practical completion in late 2021

A brand new 38-bed residential aged and palliative care facility for Carnarvon is a step closer, with local Mid-West business Crothers Construction Pty Ltd awarded the tender, enabling residents to occupy the facility in early 2022.

The $18.8 million purpose-built facility will support approximately 150 local jobs during construction.

The modern building will be co-located at the Carnarvon Health Campus and will enable integration with other health services.

Works include the construction of flexible spaces to cater for varying resident needs such as accommodation for couples and family members and will ensure local people feel at home while accessing culturally appropriate care in their local community.

The new build will also feature a dedicated main entrance and facilitate improved access to Telehealth initiatives that will support contemporary models of care.

Current residents will be able to remain at the existing facility throughout the construction and will be transitioned to the new facility when complete.

Works are set to commence next month, with the facility expected to achieve practical completion in late 2021.

Comments attributed to Health Minister Roger Cook:

"The McGowan Government remains steadfast in its commitment to offering care close to home - especially for the elderly and our most vulnerable, who we know need to be near their support networks.

"The new Carnarvon residential aged and palliative care facility will support the elderly, and those reaching end-of-life, with access to world-class care when they are at their most vulnerable.

"The new facility will also provide access to technology that will play a huge role in maximising clinical outcomes and improving patient experience in country communities by connecting them with specialists in the region and in Perth via Telehealth."

Comments attributed to Mining and Pastoral Region MLC Kyle McGinn:

"This build is essential to the future needs of the Carnarvon community and I look forward to seeing the works progress.

"I'm particularly pleased that residents will have the peace of mind of knowing they can remain at the existing facility throughout the construction and will be transitioned to the new facility when complete.

"For vulnerable community members, that's a great outcome."
