    • Guide emphasises preventing elder abuse
    • The booklet will be available as a hard copy or online

Seniors and Ageing Minister Mick Murray has launched the Council on the Ageing Western Australia's 'At Home Guide', to support older Western Australians in living well.

The At Home Guide was developed in partnership with the Department of Communities and gathers together information on health, day-to-day living, nutrition, accessing government services and finances as well as a compendium of important telephone numbers.

The guide has a particular emphasis on identifying and preventing elder abuse.

While the booklet is particularly relevant during the current COVID-19 period, it is designed as an ongoing companion for seniors who are living at home.

More than half of seniors are not online so the guide will be available in 'hard copy' format as well as online.

The Council on the Ageing will be distributing the At Home Guide through local governments, the community sector and participants in COTA programs.

The At Home Guide can also be downloaded at the Council on the Ageing website.

Comments attributed to Seniors and Ageing Minister Mick Murray:

"Over 19 per cent of Western Australia's population is aged over 60. It is predicted that by 2026, 20.9 per cent of WA's total population will be aged 60 years and over.

"The social, mental and physical wellbeing of seniors is vital in a modern community.

"It is important that everyone in the community has ready access to information and services, particularly during a time when we are focusing on supporting those who are most vulnerable.

"Older Western Australians have in particular shown great resilience throughout this challenging time.

"The At Home Guide is designed to assist seniors in keeping healthy and living well.

"The information and services in the guide is useful and there are many community networks and volunteers who are there to assist seniors in staying safe, connected and supported."
