- McGowan Government's Defence West to take part in regional defence industry workshop in Karratha next week
- Regional businesses encouraged to attend and learn what support is available to help them join defence industry supply chains
- Expanding WA's defence industry part of the State Government's plan to diversify the economy and create jobs
Defence West will visit Karratha next week to assist local businesses with potential opportunities to secure work in the defence industry.
The State Government's defence team will take part in the inaugural Commonwealth's Centre for Defence Industry Capability (CDIC) regional defence industry workshop at Red Earth Arts Precinct on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.
Businesses at the workshop will be given an overview of current and future opportunities for local companies to do business with Defence, and told what will be needed to join defence industry supply chains.
Defence West is encouraging Western Australian businesses to take advantage of the significant opportunities in the Australian Government's $200 billion Defence Integrated Investment Program, in projects like submarine and ship building, and maintenance.
Defence West, CDIC and AusIndustry will provide attendees with information about the types of support available to local firms, including business advice, grants and the Defence Innovation System.

The McGowan Government established Defence West, within the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation, in 2017 to promote and grow the State's defence industry, as part of its broader work to diversify the economy and create jobs.
More regional defence industry workshops are planned for regional hubs throughout Western Australia later this year.
Comments attributed to Defence Issues Minister Paul Papalia:

"The Karratha regional defence industry workshop is an opportunity for local businesses to learn how to go about capitalising on current and future opportunities in the sector.
"Regional WA boasts brilliant local businesses in a range of industries applicable to defence work - and we want them involved"
Comments attributed to Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:
"I encourage local Pilbara business owners to get involved at the Karratha regional defence industry workshop to hear about potential opportunities in the industry.
"The workshop will enable local Pilbara businesses to understand more about defence supply chains, and to hear more about the flow-on benefits of the State securing high-value defence contracts."
