- State Government supports land use changes for about 580 hectares of rural land
- Regional scheme amendment expands industrial area in Nambeelup
- Rezoning to help attract new businesses and create local jobs for Peel region
Changes to the Peel Region Scheme approved recently will provide a pipeline of serviced industrial land and will ensure the region continues to adapt to new economic opportunities.
Planning Minister Rita Saffioti today announced her support for an amendment to the Peel Region Scheme to rezone 378 hectares of land within the Shire of Murray from rural to industrial use, providing for future production, business and employment opportunities.
A second scheme amendment to rezone a further 201 hectares of land has also been approved, expanding the existing Peel Business Park in Nambeelup to a total of 870 hectares.
The rezoned areas sit north-east of Mandurah, on either side of the Murrayfield airpark, and are easily accessible from both the Kwinana Freeway and South West Highway, with links to local port facilities and future major road corridors.
These amendments deliver on a long-term vision to expand the Peel Business Park and will be further progressed through the development of a local planning scheme and structure plan by the Shire of Murray.
Comments attributed to Planning Minister Rita Saffioti:
"The Peel region is currently home to more than 100,000 residents with the population forecast to grow substantially by 2050, reinforcing the importance of planning for growth and ensuring the provision of local jobs for local residents.
"For more than 20 years, this area has been earmarked as a transformational project and I am pleased to support these amendments.
"The amendments set a clear planning framework and could stimulate business and industrial development within the Shire of Murray for many years to come."
Comments attributed to Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke:
"In addition to the businesses and jobs that occupy the Peel Business Park, this planning amendment could pave the way for complementary businesses and services to emerge, creating more jobs in townships across the Peel region, including Pinjarra, South Yunderup, North Yunderup, North Dandalup and Ravenswood.
"The McGowan Government is committed to creating jobs and supporting economic growth so Western Australians have access to employment and core services close to where they live."
