    • McGowan Government supports African cultural festival with $39,000 contribution

Jambo Africa returns to Stirling Civic Gardens this weekend, providing the perfect opportunity to go on an African food safari, be dazzled by dynamic performances and dance the day away - all without needing a passport.

Hosted by the Organisation of African Communities in Western Australia, the free family friendly event is the largest annual African community festival in WA.

Jambo Africa will include market and food stalls, music, dance workshops, fashion shows and cultural performances from across the continent.

African communities are some of the fastest growing communities in WA. Data from the 2016 Census shows that more than 100,000 Western Australians were born in one of over 50 African countries, a growth of 21 per cent since the 2011 Census.

This year's Jambo Africa is supported by the McGowan Government with $5,000 through the Office of Multicultural Interests' Community Grants Program, $19,000 through Lotterywest and $15,000 through Healthway.
