- $8.1 million funding commitment for a health centre in Yanchep
- Delivering integrated and multidisciplinary health care to the Yanchep community
- Estimated for completion in October 2022
- McGowan Government's mid-year review invests more than $100 million in health funding for Perth's growing northern corridor
The McGowan Government has committed $8.1 million to develop a new health centre in Yanchep.
Due for completion in late 2022, the new health centre in Yanchep will be within walking distance of the new METRONET train station and provide the local community patient-centred care options closer to home.
This announcement is in addition to $96 million committed to expand Joondalup Health Campus and takes total health investment by the McGowan Government, in the rapidly expanding northern corridor, to $104.1 million.
The Edith Cowan University (ECU) Health Centre will provide the Yanchep community with a multidisciplinary health centre with space for:
- medical clinics
- allied health and GP's on site
- nurse practitioner and community midwife consulting rooms
- treatment rooms
- education and training rooms
The Centre will provide services to address health issues being faced by the local community including chronic disease and high rates of potentially preventable hospitalisations. These objectives align with the recommendations of the Sustainable Health Review Final Report.
The McGowan Government contribution will complement funding provided by the Federal Government ($10.4 million) and ECU ($2.3 million).
The Centre will operate as a public-private partnership, with an in-kind land contribution provided by Yanchep Beach Joint Venture through a 99-year lease and may also be a site for a future Urgent Care Clinic.
Comments attributed to Health Minister Roger Cook:
"The McGowan Government recognises the need for increased health services in the rapidly growing northern corridor to cope with increased demand.
"Preventing hospital admissions by improving public health care at a local level was a recommendation of the Sustainable Health Review Final Report.
"Today's announcement for the ECU Yanchep Health Centre will provide community-based care options within the Yanchep Town Centre - reducing the need for locals to travel."
Comments attributed to Butler MLA John Quigley:
"Yanchep has been crying out for better health services and more job opportunities. This provides both in spades.
"The $20.8m Yanchep Health Centre is a long time coming and I'm proud to be delivering this potentially life-saving facility for residents."
