    • Almost $1.8 million invested in road upgrades in the Collie area

The McGowan Government is delivering on projects that will improve safety and enhance the experience for visitors in the Collie area.

The $1.1 million Wellington Forest Road upgrade has been completed and the 4.4 kilometre sealed road is now open to the public, while the contract for the $672,000 Collie Scenic Drive upgrade has recently been awarded.

Collie Scenic Drive follows a picturesque 7.5 km section of the Collie River and is a five-minute drive from the Collie town centre.

Works are expected to start this month to seal 4.25 km of the road, which will allow more visitors and tourists to access the region and enjoy its attractions.

These upgrades are another example of the McGowan Government delivering on election commitments under the Plan for Collie-Preston.

Comments attributed to Environment Minister Stephen Dawson:

"The McGowan Government is committed to upgrading and expanding the local Collie tourism road network to give more people access to the Collie River.

"By upgrading Collie Scenic Drive to provide better access to Collie River, we are enabling more people to get out and explore our wonderful natural environment.

"We are continuing to look for improvements to the way visitors get out and connect with Western Australia's national parks, reserves and forests."

Comments attributed to Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray:

"The sealing of Wellington Forrest Road was the final stretch that needed to be upgraded to complete a short tourism route in area where that industry is rapidly developing.

"News that work will soon start on sealing Collie Scenic Drive is also very welcome.

"Ensuring our beautiful forested areas are easily accessible to tourists whilst maintaining their natural appeal can be a fine balancing act, but I certainly think it is worthwhile, and I'm glad to continue delivering on promises I've made to the electorate."
