Chinese Lunar New Year begins today, heralding the Year of the Rat which symbolises intelligence, agility and a quick wit.

Chinese New Year celebrations are among the most exciting and popular events on WA's cultural calendar, drawing thousands of participants from across the community.

Many events will be held throughout the State over the next month to mark this vibrant time of the year.

The McGowan Government is proud to support Chinese New Year events including the renowned Perth Chinese New Year Fair, hosted by the Chung Wah Association.

This year's Perth Chinese New Year Fair will be held in Northbridge on Sunday February 2, and is expected to attract more than 25,000 people to enjoy a day of cultural performances, food and festivities.

The festival is supported with funding of $20,000 through the Office of Multicultural Interests and $20,000 through Lotterywest.
