Aboriginal dance and culture celebrated in Yagan Square

    24/01/2020 2:00 PM
    • Yagan Square Nyumbi - Noongar dance and music event performed weekly at DevelopmentWA's Yagan Square, the cultural hub of Perth city
    • Fridays (January 24 to June 26) from 5.30pm to 6.15pm
    • Partnership between DevelopmentWA and Tourism WA, with support from the City of Perth and Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council

Locals and visitors alike will now be able to enjoy free performances by Noongar dance groups every Friday night at Yagan Square during the Yagan Square Nyumbi.

Nyumbi, which means 'celebration dance', will offer a unique opportunity to experience language and dance from Noongar traditional owners in the heart of the city.

People will be able to immerse themselves in Western Australia's Noongar culture as Aboriginal dancers perform traditional song and dance, and share stories of our rich culture and history.

Yagan Square offers a unique location for visitors and locals to engage with the world's oldest living culture, through performance.

Yagan Square was designed in close collaboration with the South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council and the Whadjuk Working Party to make sure the design reflects and celebrates Whadjuk Noongar culture.

The event has been made possible through a partnership between DevelopmentWA and Tourism Western Australia with support from the City of Perth and the Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council.

It will be held every Friday evening from January 24 to June 26, 2020 from 5.30pm until 6.15pm at the Yagan Square Amphitheatre.
