Health facilities in the South-West are set to benefit from $7.34 million of refurbishment works through the McGowan Government's priority hospital maintenance blitz, which will support local jobs and stimulate the local economy.
The works will be carried out at 13 facilities including Augusta, Collie, Donnybrook and Harvey hospitals and Busselton Health Campus, commencing immediately.
Works will include:
- Infrastructure improvements and refurbishment works at Bridgetown, Collie, Harvey and Donnybrook hospitals and Busselton Health Campus;
- Flooring works at Nannup and Pemberton hospitals;
- Roof replacement at Collie Hospital; and
- Painting at Augusta, Bridgetown, Collie, Donnybrook, Harvey, Margaret River and Pemberton hospitals.
This funding is part of a $37 million regional health services allocation - representing one of the biggest maintenance investments in WA hospitals to improve health infrastructure and create jobs.
The McGowan Government's new $81.5 million job-creating package provides Western Australian health facilities including hospitals, health clinics, aged care sites and regional health staff accommodation with extra funding to address priority maintenance works.
The funding, which will be allocated over the next three years, will ensure high priority maintenance works are carried out to 89 health facilities across the State to improve conditions for patients and staff, and create local employment opportunities.
Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:
"My Government continues to invest heavily in health infrastructure across the State to ensure hospitals, including those in the South-West, are better maintained.
"These maintenance and improvement works are high job intensity - to ensure we can support lots of trades including carpenters, electricians, plumbers, painters and the like, and will create jobs across the State. This means more people in work across the State and is a great contribution to ensure Government investment creates jobs.
"This is about getting on with the job to complete maintenance projects and improvement works at regional hospitals and health facilities to improve conditions for patients and staff while providing local jobs to people.
"This maintenance blitz package is extra funding, on top of money already committed for planned maintenance works and minor works at health sites across the South-West region."
Comments attributed to South West Region MLC Adele Farina:
"Across the South-West, 13 facilities including those in Augusta, Collie, Donnybrook, Harvey and Busselton will share in $7.34 million for refurbishment works.
"Commencing immediately, these works will help to support our nurses and doctors in delivering the best health outcomes for patients and boost the South-West economy with the required maintenance works and upgrades delivering local jobs.
"Regional hospitals and health facilities are critical to delivering health care services locally and this investment in priority maintenance works will help to ensure these facilities continue to meet the needs of local residents."
