    • McGowan Government invests $2.8 million to support Wheatbelt aged accommodation project
    • New independent living units to be built in the Shires of Wickepin, Kondinin, Cuballing and Corrigin

The McGowan Government has committed $2.8 million to expand aged care accommodation in the southern Wheatbelt.

The project will enable up to 14 new independent living units to be built in the region, delivered through the Wheatbelt South Aged Housing Alliance.

The project has strong support from the local community, with cash and in-kind contributions from local governments for the new accommodation across the Shires of Wickepin, Kondinin, Cuballing and Corrigin.

The new facilities will help enable local residents to remain in their communities and in appropriate housing.

The funding is part of the Regional Aged Accommodation Program, which is delivering independent living units across the Mid-West, Wheatbelt, Peel, South-West and Great Southern.

Comments attributed to Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

"This McGowan Government Regional Aged Accommodation Program investment will develop high quality, purpose-built homes in the southern Wheatbelt, allowing older people to remain in their community and maintain local connections.

"It will support jobs both through the construction phase and afterwards through the health and support services sector.

"This project is a fantastic example of neighbouring local governments working together and with the State Government to deliver the best outcomes for their communities.

"Older people are great contributors to our regions and being able to keep them in the area they know, close to families and friends, helps maintain strong communities and economies."
