- WA Government helps turn sod on new sports hub, following $1.79m contribution
- $900,000 provided from State Government's Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund, in addition to $890,000 Lotterywest grant
- State Government joins Shire of Toodyay, Federal Government, Bendigo Bank and local community in funding project
Work has begun on the brand new Toodyay Sports Precinct, with Agricultural Region MLC Darren West helping to turn the first sod today on the important community facility.
The $13 million project includes a hockey pitch, four multipurpose netball and basketball courts, four tennis courts, a pavilion with change rooms and an outdoor 25-metre swimming pool.
The complex is being joint funded by the Shire of Toodyay ($6.5 million), the Federal Government ($4.7 million), the State Government ($1.79 million), the local community ($117,000) and the Bendigo Bank ($100,000).
The new integrated complex will provide a community and sporting hub for Toodyay's 4,500 residents. It is also located adjacent to Toodyay District High School - providing an easy-to-access fitness and social outlet for local young people.
Premier Mark McGowan visited Toodyay in March to announce the State Government's funding commitment to the important local sporting project.
The project supports the McGowan Government's commitment to support sport and recreation in the regions, recognising its importance in developing healthy and connected communities.
Comments attributed to Acting Sport and Recreation Minister Francis Logan:
"The McGowan Government is pleased to be able to partner so well with the Toodyay community and other levels of government to deliver this important community sport hub.
"I commend the people of Toodyay for their commitment and vision towards making this project a reality, especially for the community-building benefits it will provide by bringing locals together for grassroots sport."
Comments attributed to Agricultural Region MLC Darren West:
"This project is a great example of the community, local, State and Federal governments working together.
"I am very proud of our Government's investment in regional WA."
