- Exploring the State on a road trip included in guide
Selfies with quokkas on picturesque Rottnest Island, sampling fresh produce at the bustling Fremantle Markets or visiting the iconic Busselton Jetty are just some of the highlights of a trip to Western Australia showcased in a new Tourism WA Muslim Guide to Western Australia.
Officially launched by Tourism Minister Paul Papalia in Malaysia, the guide promotes Western Australia as a Muslim-friendly travel destination, providing information about halal food and mosque locations as well as an overview of the many attractions WA has to offer.
The guide will be distributed to agencies across Malaysia that promote Western Australia.
Popular Malaysian actor and social influencer Elfira Loy, who has more than four million social media followers, worked with Tourism Western Australia to produce the guide and shared her holiday experiences at the launch event.
Ms Loy's trip across the State is featured in the guide, which includes images of the star meeting a koala at Caversham Wildlife Park, admiring the view at Rottnest Island and checking out a halal restaurant option in the central business district.
WA's status as the 'Road Trip State' is also highlighted, with short day trips such as the Swan Valley and Perth Hills as well as longer trips such as Perth to Kalbarri, taking in unique drawcards such as the Pinnacles, Jurien Bay Marine Park and Hutt Lagoon (pink lake) among the range of suggested itinerary options.
Ms Loy's adventures in Western Australia were also part of a recent co-operative Air Asia campaign with Tourism WA in Malaysia.
According to the latest International Visitor Survey results for the year ending March 2019, Malaysia was ranked second highest in terms of visitor numbers, with 100,200 visitors and was fourth highest in terms of visitor spend, with visitors spending $196 million.
Comments attributed to Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:
"Malaysia is an important market for WA and this guide will help make our Muslim visitors feel welcome by connecting them with the information they need to plan a great holiday in our State, perhaps with family or friends.
"A road trip means visitors can experience the appeal of our vastly different regions, from the excitement of transformed Perth's vibrant night life and dining options, to the golden sands and unique formations of the Pinnacles or the natural beauty of Hutt Lagoon.
"Perth also has an incredible events calendar on offer, including a series of high-profile sporting events for football and tennis fans such as the Manchester United matches in July or Fed Cup in November as well as celebrations of local produce like Truffle Kerfuffle, held in Australia's South-West.
"Growing tourism is key to the State Government's plan to diversify the economy, create jobs and develop business opportunities."
