Community to have their say on draft Two Rocks Marina master plan

    4/07/2019 11:30 AM
    • Draft Two Rocks Marina master plan now open for community comment
    • Long-term vision to create a world-class facility generating commercial opportunities and jobs in Perth's growing northern corridor
    • $6 million of upgrades currently underway at the marina to address ageing infrastructure and improve safety

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti today released for comment a draft master plan to guide the development of Two Rocks Marina into a world-class destination over the next 40 years.

The plan aims to establish the marina as a tourism hub, and build on the successful maritime and crayfishing industry activities to create jobs as the development progresses.

The centrepiece of the plan is a new entertainment and recreation precinct, with a pedestrian bridge extending over the water forming the limits of a protected swimming beach.

An eight-lane boat launching facility, parks and additional public spaces are also features of the aspirational long-term vision which is the work of the Two Rocks Marina Reference Group.

Longer term proposals for the marina will also help to reduce local environmental challenges such as seaweed build-up and erosion.

The marina is currently undergoing $6 million worth of upgrades including breakwater improvements and the demolition of ageing maritime structures, including the original fuel jetty and the construction of a small number of relocated boat pens.

The Two Rocks Marina Draft Master Plan is available for comment until August 15, 2019.

"The release of the Two Rocks Marina Draft Master Plan for public comment marks a significant milestone in developing a long-term blueprint to optimise the potential of the marina.

"Perth's northern suburbs are growing rapidly and the Two Rocks Marina is well positioned to accommodate future demand and provide the local community with safe maritime facilities, access to the ocean and to generate economic opportunities and jobs in construction, retail and tourism.

"I encourage all interested parties to have their say on the plan so that we can ensure the future development of the marina reflects the aspirations of local residents and the current and future users of the facility."

Comments attributed to Butler MLA John Quigley:

"The Two Rocks Marina is well placed to become a major tourism attraction in our northern suburbs and create new opportunities for local workers and local businesses.

"I'd like to thank the members of the Two Rocks Marina Reference Group for their work in creating the draft plan and representing the local community and businesses.

"I'm looking forward to hearing from the community about their views on the proposed development and how it can be transformed into a local community hub we can all enjoy."
