    • Awards celebrate the best of Western Australia's ICT talent, technologies and innovation
    • Winners receive exposure through national awards programs

Western Australia's top information and communications technology (ICT) talent was showcased at the 28th annual WA Information Technology and Telecommunications Alliance (WAITTA) INCITE Awards last night (June 14).

The outstanding contributions of individuals and organisations were celebrated across a wide variety of categories, with accomplishments in the fields of health, social benefit and education set to improve outcomes for the wider community.

Innovation in the health care industry was a particular highlight, with The University of Western Australia's dual award-winning 'Noisy Guts' project expected to revolutionise the way gut problems such as irritable bowel syndrome are diagnosed.

The Water Corporation and Optika Solutions won the Most Effective Government Solution Award for their H2OME program which utilised technology, including digital meters, to conduct the world's most advanced water use study to improve supply planning and help secure WA's water future.

Achiever of the Year award winner, Derek Gerrard was recognised for his commitment to supporting and growing local ICT enterprise. Mr Gerrard is advisor and director at Purpose Ventures which has contributed funding of $23 million to support WA's technology sector.

The State Government is a major partner in the WAITTA Awards, which provides pathways to national awards programs affording further opportunities to showcase WA innovation.
