    • Chevron Australia and Brookfield sign contract for Elizabeth Quay tower
    • McGowan Government delivers on commitment to make Elizabeth Quay work with further job-creating development
    • Development set to create 1,000 jobs during construction

The McGowan Government has welcomed the partnership between Chevron Australia and Brookfield to develop a new 29-storey multi-use tower at Elizabeth Quay.

Premier Mark McGowan and Planning Minister Rita Saffioti were present today as the two companies signed a development contract, with Brookfield to build Chevron's Australian headquarters.

The tower will include more than 54,000 square metres of office floor space and incorporates exhibition spaces, a lobby and conference facilities.

Located on the corner of The Esplanade and Barrack Street, the building's lower levels will include childcare and gymnasium space with retail tenancies and café/restaurants on the ground floor, to activate large areas of open plaza facing into Elizabeth Quay.

In December 2018, the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority granted Chevron Australia development approval for the site.

In recommending the proposal for approval, the Central Perth Land Redevelopment Committee noted the unique architectural design and a mix of commercial, dining and entertainment, retail and community land uses that will complement Elizabeth Quay.

The development will provide more jobs, maximising local development industry involvement including equipment and services, with the peak construction workforce expected to reach 1,000 onsite.

Chevron have committed to lease approximately 78 per cent of the tower for a 15-year period as the anchor tenant. Construction is expected to commence in mid-2020.

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

"I'm thrilled with Chevron's commitment to WA, it shows confidence in our State's future and will be a boost for the economy.

"Around 1,000 jobs will be created and local industry will benefit with a major flow-on of work through local contracts from this Brookfield development.

"Thousands of employees will be based at the headquarters, benefiting small businesses throughout the city, and activating Elizabeth Quay.

"We've been committed to making Elizabeth Quay a success, and this development will go a long way to making sure this waterfront asset is a feature of our city for decades."

Comments attributed to Planning Minister Rita Saffioti:

"Today's contract signing is a step closer to making Elizabeth Quay as self-sustainable as possible, with a large permanent workforce complementing new residents in the area.

"Chevron's new headquarters will contribute to delivering a vibrant, activated Elizabeth Quay, which is ultimately expected to be home to 1,400 people and 10,000 workers.

"It is great to see the area taking shape with Far East Consortium's Towers development recently reaching practical completion and CA & Associates' EQ West development expected to commence works on their site later this year.

"Hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer's money was used to create Elizabeth Quay, and this Government is 100 per cent committed to making it work and becoming something all Western Australians can be proud of."
