    • Public comment sought on new Heritage Act Proclamation Regulations

New heritage legislation is a step closer with the release today of proclamation regulations for public comment.

Passed in September 2018, the Heritage Act 2018 replaces the outdated Heritage of Western Australia Act 1990.

The new legislation ensures better protections for important heritage places, streamlines processes, and will provide greater certainty for owners wishing to adapt and develop their heritage places.

The State Government has been consulting with stakeholders throughout the development of the new Act, and will continue to do so on the proclamation regulations which set out procedures that the Heritage Council will follow in fulfilling its role.

The Heritage Act 2018 will come into force once the proclamation regulations are approved by the Governor.

For further information on the draft proclamation regulations, or to have your say, visit http://www.stateheritage.wa.gov.au. A series of guidelines relating to features of the new Act have also been developed for public comment, and have been published on the Heritage Council's website.

Comments attributed to Heritage Minister David Templeman:

"As one of the final steps on the road to enacting this legislation, it is important that we have community feedback on the regulations that will guide the Heritage Council in fulfilling its role under the new Act.

"I'd like to acknowledge all the individuals, organisations and agencies that have helped to shape this important contemporary piece of legislation to date.

"Your continued input is encouraged as we finalise all the elements that will ultimately bring the legislation to life."
