    Consultation on mental health clinical governance

    8/03/2019 9:00 AM
    • Three-month consultation starts for mental health clinical governance review
    • Review overseen by an independent panel comprised of consumer and carer advocates and industry experts
    • Panel to report key findings by June 30, 2019

    Formal consultation begins today to help enhance the provision of mental health services for Western Australians.

    An independent panel will meet with a range of stakeholders to seek feedback on the clinical governance of public mental health services in Western Australia, including roles and responsibilities, processes, system integration and effectiveness, and culture.

    Consumers and carers are also invited to share their views via an online survey, along with health professionals, community and industry groups.

    This consultation forms part of the Review of the Clinical Governance of Public Mental Health Services, announced by the Minister for Mental Health in May 2018. This review was established in response to recommendations made by the 2017 Review of Safety and Quality in the WA Health System and 2018 Sustainable Health Review Interim Report.

    The independent panel comprises:

    • Dr Martin Chapman - chairperson;
    • Professor Bryant Stokes AM - Special Ministerial Advisor;
    • Dr Peggy Brown AO - panel member;
    • Dr Grant Sara - panel member; and
    • Margaret Doherty - panel member.

    Each panel member was selected based on their experience and expertise within the field of mental health.

    The online survey will be available until April 12, and a final report - including findings and recommendations, will be delivered by June 30, 2019.

    Further information regarding the review, and a link to the survey, are available on the Department of Health's website at https://ww2.health.wa.gov.au/MHCGReview
