Premier Mark McGowan has today officially opened Harvey Primary School's new science laboratory.

The newly refurbished facility is part of the McGowan Government's $17 million 'Science in Schools' election commitment, which will see 200 primary school classrooms transformed into science laboratories by 2021.

The school received $25,000 to purchase laboratory equipment and resources including iPads, a large touch screen and a standing teacher's desk, with plans to also purchase Bunsen burners, microscopes, science beakers and petri dishes.

Schools were selected based on their plans to grow and improve science education to skill students for the jobs of the future.

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

"Our 'Science in Schools' commitment will help encourage children's interest in science from an early age.

"This is crucial as the skills and concepts children learn in science, technology, engineering and mathematics are vital for their future job prospects.

"This brand new science lab will provide exciting opportunities for students at Harvey Primary School."

Comments attributed to Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke:

"The new science lab provides students with a vibrant learning environment, and is a great addition to the already strong science partnership between Harvey Primary and Harvey Senior High schools.
