    • Approval given for redevelopment on the Swan River

Environment Minister Stephen Dawson has today approved the redevelopment of an iconic riverside restaurant in Mosman Park.

Mosmans Restaurant - at 15 Johnson Parade - currently contains a licensed restaurant which can be booked for functions, a three-bedroom short-stay unit and seven private boat pens.

Approved works will involve demolition of the existing structures and construction of a two-storey building containing a restaurant/café on the lower level, and an upper level containing a function room and short-stay accommodation units catering for up to 36 people.

The redevelopment will also feature a new public jetty and eight private boat pens.

It is the latest in a list of new tourism developments and activities that will contribute to Perth's vibrancy, and offer visitors more choice.

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) assessed the development application under Part 5 of the Swan and Canning Rivers Management Act 2006.

DBCA's draft report was released for public comment in May 2018. A final decision on the development was made by the Minister for Environment. There are a number of strict conditions placed on the development to protect the special qualities of the Swan River and the amenity of nearby residents.

Comments attributed to Environment Minister Stephen Dawson:

"The McGowan Government is working to create a diverse array of recreation and tourism options that will continue to attract visitors to our Swan River and our city, while still protecting its ecological values.

"This development will help to create a more vibrant waterfront in Mosman Park, where people can engage with the river in more ways than ever before."

Comments attributed to Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:

"The Swan River is one of Perth's most recognisable and valuable tourism assets, so it's great to see it is going to be enhanced by the development of new and innovative businesses that meet the needs of the community.

"Supporting projects which promote our city and State as an affordable, vibrant destination close to nature is a key part of Tourism WA's Two-Year Action Plan."
