    • State Government seeking scheme co-ordinator for Container Deposit Scheme
    • Applications open until December 5, 2018

The McGowan Government is one step closer to the implementation of a container deposit scheme in Western Australia, with applications being sought for a scheme co-ordinator.

A request for applications has today been uploaded onto the Tenders WA website and will be open until December 5, 2018.

A scheme co-ordinator will be responsible for managing the scheme's finances, and establishing and operating the collection network. The successful applicant will be a not-for-profit company appointed by the Minister for Environment.

As well as diverting waste from landfill, the CDS is likely to boost employment, with as many as 500 jobs created at new container sorting and processing facilities and refund points across metropolitan and regional Western Australia.

WA's container deposit scheme is just part of the Government's strong commitment to waste reduction - which includes a ban on lightweight single-use plastic bags and a review of the State's waste strategy.

The scheme will commence in early 2020.
