    • Comedy show to bring consumers, carers and service providers together to celebrate Mental Health Week
    • Mental Health Week encourages Western Australians to think about their mental health and wellbeing and those of others

Need a laugh? Mental Health Week 2018 will officially close with a night of stand-up comedy at the State Theatre Centre of WA tomorrow (October 13).

Stand Up! For Comedy will be hosted by Werzel Montague and features some of Australia's most hilarious comedians including Rhys Nicholson, Neel Kolhatkar and Sam Taunton.

This year, Mental Health Week encourages people to think about the everyday setting where they live, learn, work and play where they can support their mental health and wellbeing and those of others.

Stand Up! For Comedy is presented by the Perth Theatre Trust in partnership with the Western Australian Association for Mental Health, and supported by the Mental Health Commission, with proceeds from the event being reinvested back into community mental health.

To purchase tickets, visit the Perth Theatre Trust's website at http://www.ptt.wa.gov.au

Comments attributed to Mental Health Minister Roger Cook:

"Each year, one in every five Australians will experience a mental health issue so it's fantastic to see some of Australia's best comedians throw their support behind mental health and wellbeing in Western Australia.

"We are often told laughter is the best medicine, but the comedy show does more than that - it brings people together. This means they can share personal stories with others, and we know connection and inclusion are important to help maintain positive mental health and wellbeing.

"My hope is that all Western Australians adopt the message of Mental Health Week and implement them every week of the year."

Comments attributed to Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman:

"The arts have always played a big role in mental health recovery. We hear stories of people who have produced some outstanding artwork while on their recovery journey. Stand Up! For Comedy is about bringing people together to have a laugh and connect with others, be that carers, consumers or service providers.

"I encourage all Western Australians to stand up, have a laugh and connect with those around them."
