Premier Mark McGowan today presented a Lotterywest grant of $366,071 to the Shire of York to support the redevelopment of Avon Park, and the riverfront area in York.
The funding will go towards the construction of a nature play area, playground equipment, shade structures, pavilion and sound shell with a stage.
As a key tourism hotspot for the Wheatbelt region, the revitalised location will provide the whole community and visitors a safe play area which will be accessible for children of all ages and abilities.
Facilities will also be available for community events to encourage participation, outdoor activities and drive extra visitation to the local area.
The Avon River, which runs through the town of York, holds cultural and heritage significance as a long-standing meeting place for both Aboriginal people and European settlers.
