    • Karratha Health Campus officially opened by the Premier and the Minister for Health
    • Biggest investment ever made in a regional WA hospital
    • Facilities boast a range of new and expanded services delivered from one healthcare hub

Premier Mark McGowan today officially opened the new $207.15 million Karratha Health Campus, the biggest investment ever made in a regional hospital in Western Australia.

Karratha Health Campus is part of a $1.5 billion modernisation program being delivered by the WA Country Health Service to improve health services across regional Western Australia.

Innovative technology along with new infrastructure and improved patient systems all have a huge part to play in modern day healthcare, and the new campus is no exception.

Designed to withstand the extreme Pilbara weather conditions, the purpose-built facility offers the Karratha community an expanded emergency department, a brand new surgical centre, a new outpatients' area, a maternity wing and delivery suites with purpose-built baths to provide pain relief for women during labour.

It is also home to essential services including child health clinics and new medical imaging suites.

A helipad allows access for patients coming to Karratha from remote locations, and supports the emergency evacuation of patients needing urgent transport via Karratha Airport to Perth.

Hospital upgrades across the State, coupled with the election commitment to establish Medihotels, will ensure regional Western Australians receive increased support, appropriate treatment and improved healthcare outcomes.

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

"The Karratha Health Campus is an impressive facility, transforming the way health services are delivered in the Pilbara by embracing innovative new technology and ensuring essential services are available in one key location.

"This new state-of-the-art hospital will ensure local Karratha families receive top quality care close to home and their loved ones.

"My Government is committed to putting patients first, which is why we are investing $655 million into upgrading health infrastructure across the State, ensuring no matter where they live every Western Australian has access to the very best healthcare."

Comments attributed to Health Minister Roger Cook:

"Karratha Health Campus is the biggest investment ever undertaken in a public hospital in regional WA. It's a stunning space to deliver world-class healthcare.

"Technology plays a huge part in modern day healthcare by helping to bridge the challenge of distance. In line with the Interim Report of the Sustainable Health Review, Karratha will host expanded telehealth services.

"The expanded telehealth services at Karratha Health Campus extend the scope of healthcare available and allow local people to have specialist appointments near their home, avoiding the need for costly and stressful travel to Hedland or Perth."

Comments attributed to Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:

"The opening of the new Karratha Health Campus means our local community has access to top quality treatment in a purpose-built facility, designed to withstand the Pilbara's extreme climatic conditions and with the convenience of all health services under one roof.

"Local health services are so important to regional communities like ours - this is a hospital our community can be proud of for generations to come."
