    • Biggest investment ever for stand-alone volunteer bushfire brigade facility
    • The base will cover 400 square metres and include incident control and radio rooms
    • Collaboration between West Gidgegannup Bush Fire Brigade, the City of Swan and Department of Fire and Emergency Services

The McGowan Labor Government has today announced a record $1.13 million will be invested in a brand new facility for the West Gidgegannup Bush Fire Brigade.

The funding is the largest ever investment in a stand-alone volunteer bushfire brigade facility in Western Australia's history.

The new purpose-built facility will house four appliances and include incident control and radio rooms.

It will be spread across 400 square metres and was a result of a collaboration between the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, the City of Swan and the West Gidgegannup Bush Fire Brigade.

The brigade, which has been protecting its community for more than 50 years, has been storing its fire appliances on private property.

This new facility will not only increase the brigade's response times, but will also provide a first-class base to make it easier and more efficient to help build the brigade's skills and knowledge.

It is expected the new base will be complete by August 2019.

Comments attributed to Emergency Services Minister Francis Logan:

"This has been a great example of collaboration by the department, the City of Swan and the West Gidgegannup volunteers.

"I want to acknowledge the tireless advocacy of the volunteers who worked hard to get this new facility.

"They currently store their appliances on private property, so I'm very pleased that not only will they be getting a proper base, but it will be purpose-built to meet their current and future needs.

"This is the largest funding allocation to date for a stand-alone volunteer bushfire brigade facility and another example of the McGowan Labor Government's commitment to helping improve our State's emergency services."

Comments attributed to Swan Hills MLA Jessica Shaw:

"I am so pleased to be able to assist the West Gidgegannup VBFB secure a fire station after a wait of more than three years.

"Our firefighting volunteers do such an important role protecting the community, and it is critical that they have the resources they need to do the job.

"My thanks to Minister Logan for his commitment to this fire station and the City of Swan for their contribution.

"I congratulate the West Gidgegannup VBFB for all of their efforts. I know they have put in a lot of hard work to make this fire station a reality.

"We are so lucky to have such dedicated volunteers looking out for the safety of our Swan Hills community."
