    • Winners of the 2017/18 Sport and Recreation Industry Awards announced
    • Awards recognise exciting and diverse activities in the sport and recreation industry 

    An inclusive hockey team, a collaborative sports weekend and a not-for-profit's dedication to volunteering have all won awards at the 2017/18 Sport and Recreation Industry Awards.


    Announced during a breakfast at Optus Stadium on Wednesday August 8, the biennial awards acknowledge and reward those who have played a crucial role in the development and ongoing management of the sport and recreation industry.


    An important industry to Western Australians and our way of life, the awards highlight the exciting and diverse range of work which goes on in sport and recreation.


    There were more than 70 entries, and the winners of the 2017/18 Sport and Recreation Industry Awards are:


    ·         Organisational excellence: Football West

    ·         Commitment to Participation: Perth Pythons Hockey Club

    ·         Places and Spaces: Cockburn ARC

    ·         Supporting Volunteers: Fair Game Australia

    ·         Regional Excellence: Wirrpanda Foundation

    ·         Community Event of the Year: WA Football Commission and Netball WA

    ·         Professional Event of the Year: Tennis Australia

    ·         True Sport Award: Fremantle Netball Association

    ·         Leadership: Royal Lifesaving Society WA

    ·         Innovation in Practice: Western Australian Cricket Association and Inclusion Solutions

    ·         John Graham Award: Grant Boyce

    ·         Minister's Award: Football West


    The awards showcase the extensive work done behind the scenes from organisations right across the community, such as not-for-profits, local governments, clubs, associations and sports.
