Designed to assist regional families with young athletes aspiring to represent Western Australia, and ultimately Australia, to date more than 4,500 athletes across the State have benefited from the subsidy.

The latest round opens today (August 13) and closes on September 14, 2018. For more information and online applications, visit http://www.dsr.wa.gov.au

Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:

"The Regional Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme helps young regional athletes to travel to events, competitions and training camps to help them progress along their sports pathway.

"Athletes living in regional Western Australia face a more difficult financial burden than their city counterparts, and this program is designed to ease some of these costs for athletes and their families.

"Some of the country's best athletes have risen through the ranks after beginning in country-based junior sport, and this program ensures we make that pathway easier for players and their families."
