- New round of Regional Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme opens today
- McGowan Government program helps regional athletes and their families with expenses associated with travelling and competing
The latest round of the McGowan Government's Regional Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme has today opened, with country athletes able to apply for funding to make it easier to travel and compete.
The program offsets out-of-pocket travel and accommodation costs associated with attending eligible training camps and competitions within the sport's official talent development pathway at a regional, State and national level.
Designed to assist regional families with young athletes aspiring to represent Western Australia, and ultimately Australia, to date more than 4,500 athletes across the State have benefited from the subsidy.

"The Regional Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme helps young regional athletes to travel to events, competitions and training camps to help them progress along their sports pathway.
"Athletes living in regional Western Australia face a more difficult financial burden than their city counterparts, and this program is designed to ease some of these costs for athletes and their families.
"Some of the country's best athletes have risen through the ranks after beginning in country-based junior sport, and this program ensures we make that pathway easier for players and their families."
