    • Appointment to support sustainable economic development in the region

Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan today announced the appointment of Andy Munro as chairperson of the Gascoyne Development Commission board.

Mr Munro brings to the role strong regional development and project experience across both the Western Australian government and corporate sectors.

This is backed by many years of departmental and Ministerial appointments, along with senior executive experience at Rio Tinto.

He was a GDC Board member between December 2002 and February 2004.

Andy replaces outgoing Chairperson Tom Stephens, who took up the interim appointment in September 2017.

Exmouth business woman Sonia Beckwith, Gascoyne Junction pastoralist Alys McKeough and Carnarvon horticulturalist Paul Shain have recently been appointed to the board.

Comments attributed to Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

"Andy will lead a commission focused on sustainable economic and social development across the region.

"He brings to the role strong experience in regional development, extensive project management and corporate relations.

"The Gascoyne is a great place to live and work - it is home to the Gascoyne Food Bowl which produces some of the State's highest quality food.

"Regional development in the fishing, horticultural and pastoral sectors are contributing increasingly more to the State's economic growth.

"Bookended by the Shark Bay and Ningaloo World Heritage Areas, and buttressed by the Mt Augustus National Park, the Gascoyne is a tourist's mecca offering growth and diversification opportunities."
