- McGowan Government signs two-year deal to sponsor TABtouch Masters
- WA's biggest annual racing festival has total prize pool of $5.27 million
- Funding to help attract high-profile Australian and international thoroughbreds
The McGowan Government, through Tourism WA, has signed a two-year funding deal to support WA's biggest annual racing festival, the TABtouch Masters, in 2018 and 2019.
The event is the world's only single-track thoroughbred racing festival featuring a Group One race worth at least $1 million on three consecutive Saturdays.
Held in November and December at Ascot Racecourse, the event includes the Railway Stakes, Winterbottom Stakes and the Kingston Town Classic.
The TABtouch Masters forms part of the Perth Racing Summer Racing Carnival at Ascot.
State Government funding from last year's event helped secure 14 interstate horses, which included Group One winners and South Australia's top horse, Viddora.
Comments attributed to Acting Tourism Minister Bill Johnston:
"The McGowan Government proudly supported the successful TABtouch Masters last year, and we look forward to sponsoring the series for a further two years.
"The continued funding will help to secure more high-profile thoroughbreds to elevate the status of the event, as well as market the series nationally and overseas.
"Sponsoring events, such as the TABtouch Masters, will help us attract interstate visitors to Perth and showcase the city's transformation into a more vibrant and affordable destination.
"This is a key goal of the McGowan Government's Two-Year Action Plan for tourism, which aims to boost visitors to the State, encourage them to stay longer and disperse further regionally."
