- 12 community groups to share $81,209 for youth engagement projects
Sporting programs and a career expo are among the projects to be supported through the latest round of the State Government's Youth Engagement Grants Program.
Acting Youth Minister Bill Johnston said 12 organisations would share $81,209 for projects that encouraged young people to actively engage in WA's communities.
Among the recipients, Sports Challenge Australia will receive $10,000 to engage at-risk youth from Middle Swan and Koongamia by providing sport and cognitive problem-solving activities to build and improve their physical and mental health.
The program will encourage youth to realise their potential in all areas of life including positive involvement with their peers, families, schools and community.
Other successful recipients include The Rotary Club of Bunbury Leschenault, which will receive $5,000 for its Science and Engineering Challenge and Science Discovery Day.
The project aims to encourage regional students to participate in STEM subjects and prepare them for the technological future ahead of them. Students will be provided with the opportunity to engage in mentoring, teaching and volunteering within the community.

Comments attributed to Acting Youth Minister Bill Johnston:
"The Youth Engagement Grants Program assists organisations to encourage young people aged 10 to 18 years to help develop and implement community-focused initiatives.
"The initiatives are incredibly diverse but all share a goal to help young people to develop the knowledge, confidence, life and leadership skills they need for a positive future.
"These activities also bring young people together, make them feel safe and enable them to feel connected."
