- Election commitment fulfilled with $2 million allocation towards Eaton Community Hub project
The Eaton Community Hub project is a step closer to fruition, with the McGowan Labor Government to allocate $2 million towards the redevelopment in the State Budget.
The funding fulfils a 2017 election commitment to assist with developing Eaton Bowls Club into a multi-purpose community hub.
The Eaton Community Hub concept is designed to provide a shared space for local events and activities. The Eaton area is currently lacking a dedicated facility for local clubs to gather, private functions to be held, and other social events to take place.
Eaton Bowls Club has begun integrating other community clubs and social organisations into the facility, as it looks to diversify user groups and increase public use of the club.
The $2 million election commitment includes $1.95 million for redevelopment works in 2018-19, and a $50,000 allocation to assist the club in planning and costing the redevelopment.
Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister and Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray:
"The McGowan Labor Government is fulfilling another election commitment with this $2 million allocation to expand and enliven Eaton Bowls Club into the Eaton Community Hub.
"Shared facilities are the way of the future for social sport and recreation. They are more affordable for clubs and sports, they bring the community together, and they can help refresh tired clubs with new members.
"Eaton is a growing area with plenty of young families, and I look forward to seeing new sports, new clubs, and new members making use of the future Eaton Community Hub in years to come."
