    • Election commitment fulfilled with $3.9 million allocated to Hay Park lighting and drainage upgrades

The McGowan Government will fulfil its election commitment to invest millions towards the future of the Hay Park sporting complex, with funding to assist with lighting and drainage upgrades included in the State Budget.

The McGowan Government has committed $3.9 million towards the facility in the 2018-19 State Budget, with $150,000 allocated to assist with project planning in 2017-18.

Bunbury MLA Don Punch has driven the local campaign for the upgrades, making securing funding for Hay Park one of his priorities during the 2017 State Election.

Hay Park is the largest sporting reserve in Bunbury, catering for a range of sports from BMX and croquet to field sports such as AFL, cricket and soccer.

Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:

"I am delighted to deliver this election commitment, for the benefits it will bring to community sport and the job-creating investment it will bring to the Bunbury area.

"An interest in sport in early life does wonders for later physical and mental health, social inclusion and happiness - and quality local sporting facilities are critical to achieving those outcomes.

"Don Punch worked hard to advocate for this important funding, and local sports and clubs will see important benefits from his work in this space."

Comments attributed to Bunbury MLA Don Punch:

"Sporting clubs are at the heart of our community and make such a significant contribution to our way of life. I am really pleased to be recognising that contribution with this funding for the facilities at Hay Park.

"Upgrading facilities at Hay Park is an important part of our Plan for Bunbury, and I am proud to be part of a government that is honouring its election commitments and delivering for the community.

"I know every dollar we spend here will be valued added to by the clubs through their volunteerism, engagement with young people and participation in other community initiatives so I believe this funding is a fantastic investment in our community."
