    • Community Services Minister Simone McGurk will travel to Bunbury to hear about opportunities and the challenges that carers face

Community Services Minister Simone McGurk will meet with carers, and people working with carers, in Bunbury at the end of this month.

The Carers Advisory Council, which reports to the Minister on the interests of carers, is hosting the event, with discussions focusing on opportunities and the challenges that carers face in regional areas.

The State Government funds and supports many carer initiatives, including providing more than $1 million of annual funding to peak body, Carers WA.

The event is being held from 10am to 2pm on Wednesday, May 30 at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre, located at 2 Blair Street in Bunbury. Morning tea and lunch will be provided.

Carers, and those working with carers, are being encouraged to attend the session.

Comments attributed to Community Services Minister Simone McGurk:

"There are more than 320,000 carers in Western Australia who provide unpaid care, support and assistance to people with disability or chronic illnesses, including mental illness, or who are frail.

"Therefore it is vital that carers are supported and respected, and that we listen to their experiences.

"I encourage all carers, and those working with them, to attend the engagement session in Bunbury."
