- Tony Cooke passes away after a long battle with cancer
The McGowan Government is saddened to hear of the passing of former Unions WA secretary Tony Cooke.
Mr Cooke spent 25 years in the union movement and was Unions WA, formerly named the Trades and Labour Council (TLC), secretary during the third wave dispute.
He was also the TLC's first welfare officer and regarded as one of Western Australia's most influential leaders for protecting workers.
Comments attributed to Commerce and Industrial Relations Minister Bill Johnston:
"Tony Cooke was a towering contributor to Western Australia's union movement and the whole community.
"He had a major impact on industrial relations, workers' compensation, and occupation, health and safety laws in Western Australia.
"I send my deepest condolences on behalf of the State Government to his family and friends."
