- $5.8 million upgrade complete
- Local architects and builder deliver refurbished police complex for South-West
Police Minister Michelle Roberts today formally relaunched the upgraded South West Police Complex.
Since coming to office in March 2017, the State Government has boosted police and detective numbers in the South-West.
The $5.8 million upgrade ensures these extra officers are adequately accommodated and includes:
- An expansion of operational areas and facilities;
- An upgrade to staff amenities;
- Replacement of the building's air-conditioning system;
- An upgrade to the CCTV systems;
- Two new public interview rooms;
- New furniture, desks and shelving; and
- New flooring throughout the facility.
Busselton-based D'Agostino & Luff were the architects for the project, with Bunbury-based Perkins Builders completing the works.
The police station remained operational throughout the construction.
Also today, three serving and three retired officers were presented with service medals for their commitment to the South-West region.
Comments attributed to Police Minister Michelle Roberts:
"The upgraded South West Police Complex will cater for future population growth and provide staff with better facilities to co-ordinate local crime strategies.
"A police station is an important liaison point for the community and it is important that a modern station provides for a mix of police needs and public comforts.
"These new facilities ensure our frontline police have the support and resources to make local communities safer and more secure.
"I'm pleased to see the Aboriginal flag has been added to the flags flying outside the complex, as it signifies the important relationship and commitment of police to improving the lives of Aboriginal people.
"I would like to congratulate Detective Sergeant Gary Simpson, Sergeant Ian Jansen and Senior Constable Leslie Smith; and retired sergeants Gary Timms, Mick Taylor and Mal Hicks, and recognise the contribution they have made to keeping the community safe."
